Your credit score is related to the credit information present on your report. As the information on your credit report changes, your score will change too. Now, whether the change is for good or bad is up to you to take care of. How responsible you are financially, will decide whether you will have a good or a bad score, whether you will or will not be considered for future loans, mortgages and credit cards.

What are the myths associated with credit scores?

There are various myths associated with credit scores. Every one of you want to improve your scores and some may even go to the extent of believing everything that is said. That is not the right approach. There are specific things you may do to improve credit scores and there are others that would not help at all.

Here is a list of myths people believe about factors that work on improving their scores:

1. Your score will fall if you pull your report – This is not true. If you pull your own report, it is considered as a ‘soft inquiry’ and is not harmful for your score at all. Your score can come down only by a ‘hard inquiry’ made by creditors or any other lenders. You must also remember that multiple inquiries within a limited time period, for the same reason, will also be grouped together and may only slightly affect your score. It is necessary that you take a look at your report to find out if there is any discrepancy that you need to get removed because false information will definitely harm your score.

2. Negative accounts are removed once paid – Negative accounts reflect as ‘paid’ once paid off but will be removed only after the specified time is over. For example, a charge-off will remain on your report for 7 years and bankruptcies for 7-10 years respectively. Once the account is paid, it will definitely boost your score to some extent but maybe not remarkably.

3. You are not responsible for an account as a co-signor – On the contrary, when you co-sign an account or become an authorized user on someone’s credit card, you become legally responsible for the account. Any activity on such accounts will reflect on both party’s report and score respectively. For example, if you have co-signed on a family member’s mortgage, and the family member defaults on the loan, your score will also be affected and vice versa. You must be removed as a co-signor or must get the loan refinanced to avoid such a situation.

4. Closing old unused accounts will improve score – An old account means a long credit history and closing one of such accounts would only mean shortening your credit history. This does not have a good impact on our score. Ask your credit card company to lower the limit on your card and close newer cards instead.

5. Opening many new accounts will improve score – If you already have several accounts and look forward to improving your score, do not get new accounts. This will only hamper your score. If you have never had an account, then opening new accounts (not too many) will boost your score.

6. Paying off a debt increases at least 50 points – The calculations for your credit score is based on a complex algorithm. Hence, it is very difficult to assess how many points would increase by taking care of one factor. Paying off a debt nevertheless, does improve your score. So, pay off any debt that you have.

Remember, there is no magic to work up your credit scores. You can only improve credit scores by being regular on your payments and not defaulting on them and by handling your credit well.

Credit score in a layman’s language can be defined as a scale for measuring an individuals borrowing capacity. Usually in UK it varies from £300 to £900. And an individual having a credit score of around £720 at his end then it’s an average score. Generally the creditor checks the credit score of the borrower and charges the rate of interest according to it. Means a borrower having a score closer to the upper limit of the scale gets good rates while the borrower having a lower limit score usually gets the unwanted rates, as obviously they are counted to be in the higher lending risk zone. According to a study of a concerned department it is found that only 11% of the people here in UK have a beacon score above £800 while almost no one was found to be at the exact figures of £900.

And the irony is that if, during the credit check, your beacon score is found below the figures of £650 then the creditors may find issues in your credit allotment. And also the lenders will consider you as a B category client. But if you are in a bad zone of £300 to £580 then the lenders will rate you as sub-prime category client and you may have to pay really astonishing rates along with high fee for applying for any kind of loan. But they there…don’t worry if you find yourself in a weak beacon score, just go through the following points and consider them.

Your payment history should not exceed 35% of your score. Remember it rises with on-time payments and dips by making late payments even if by 30 days. Along with this any judgment, bankruptcy or any pending payment can create a hassle in your beacon score.

Credit score is the amount of debts on an individual. It ranges from £300 to £900 and the amount of £720 is considered as an average score.

In the previous days when Internet was not yet born, each time you want to get your credit report it is inevitable that you have to endure the long boring lines at your local bank. And it’s not only that, there are many things that you have to endure yourself when you are in the pursuit of obtaining your credit report. However, it’s no longer in that way today. Since the invention of the Internet, almost every information can already be obtainable online any time. All you have to do is to sit in front of your computer and do few mouse clicks and presto – the information you want! This is also true with your credit report. You no longer have to wait in long lines and you no longer have to deal with uncanny representatives. The only thing that you have to make sure is that you are working with the right online reporting agency. You have to make sure that they are legitimate ones. The government allows every consumer to be able to view their credit report once a year for free and indeed this is an excellent concept.

An individual should check their credit report so often. Actually an individual can check their credit report at the minimum of twelve times per year. In other words it is advisable that they should check it once per month. By doing so, they can prevent identity theft that is so rampant these days. If they are able to familiarize their report because of regularly checking it, they can detect easily if there’s a sudden series of charges in their account. Or at times, they can detect new accounts that are opened in their name that they did not open themselves.

It is not very difficult process to determine your FICO score. There are a handful of websites nowadays that offer this kind of service. All you have to do is very simple. It is just like logging onto Internet and does some Googling to find the proper service. When you find one, simply accept a membership with them by signing up. After then you can view your information. The beauty of some of these services is that they offer free trials. Although these free trials are dependent upon the company, most of them typically offer a free service for a week. The free service enables the member to view their information and be familiar with the company and the interface of the site.

During the free trial the client is free to decide whether he wants to continue the membership or not. If not satisfied, the client can choose to cancel their membership before the free trial ends. And of course it will not cost them any dollar. On the other hand, those satisfied clients can choose to continue their membership and enjoy the service for as long as they wanted it. Most of these agencies ask for a monthly payment for this service. During the membership the client will have an unlimited access to their credit report and FICO scores. For those clients who opt to continue the membership, they will reap the benefits for themselves because they can view their report any time they like.

If you are ready to get your own credit score you can use one of the best credit reporting services offering a free trial and the cheapest price online by going here.

We’ve all seen those info-commercials at 1:00 am telling you, you can have perfect credit. However, take it from somebody that has been suckered into that course, and has suffered from writers cramps, they don’t work.

I think I bought that course for about $97.00. I later asked, for a refund, and was denied by the way. This course came with a 30- page book that taught you all about credit repair, the importance of having a good FICO score, and what lenders look at when they evaluate your credit. It also explained to you how each of the three bureaus reported and their procedures.

Sure it was valuable information, but nothing I couldn’t find on my own. My kit also came with letter templates. Pretty simple letters that basically told the credit reporting agency they made a mistake and to please research the item again. I did this for about 6 months, every single time I would get a reply back from the reporting bureau that says “Sorry, we have verified this item belongs to you.” Ugg, so very frustrating.

Then I came a cross a system one day, that made me very skeptical, one of those things that are too good to be true. However, I gave it a shot. I was set up completely in less than a half hour. I had no letter to write, and nothing to sign. Everything was being done for me, and it was being done by an attorney.

That must be all that is needed, because within two weeks I received my first notification from Experian that a collections account had been deleted off my credit report. I thought, wow this is beginners luck. However, two weeks later I received another letter stating another item had been deleted. You know what, it didn’t stop. All together I had over 50 items deleted off my credit reports. Giving me a perfect score. I know have perfect credit, but I keep this system in place in case something does happen to hit my report. This system gave me my life back, and I know it can do the same for you too.

I know where you at right now, your saying yeah right it’s too good to be true. So I made a video in the link below. In this video I have logged in to my account and will show you the items that have actually been deleted. You will have no doubt in your mind. The whole world is going to know how screwed up my credit was, but if it helps you Great!

If you are struggling to pay your debts every month, the last thing you want to do is pay more than you owe or pay for inferior products. Consumers that find themselves in this boat must follow a formal process to dispute erroneous credit card charges.

There are several reasons you might want to dispute a credit card bill. If you purchased a defective or substandard item and the seller refuses to correct the situation, someone makes unauthorized purchases in your name, or you simply find mathematical errors on your statement, you should take proper steps to dispute your bill.

Show Good Faith

If you buy an item and it’s either defective or not as described, you can withhold payment if the seller will not take actions to repair, replace, or otherwise make you satisfied. If you dispute a charge that wasn’t delivered as promised, you must first make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute with the seller. Secondly, you must tell the credit card company in writing your reason for withholding payment.

Requirements

You can refuse to pay only if you used a major credit card (Visa/Mastercard) not one issued by the seller (such as a store card), the purchase was over $50., and the sale took place in your home state or within 100 miles if out-of-state. State law determines whether phone or internet purchases fall into that category.

Document Your Case

If you conclude you are entitled to withhold payment, write a letter to the credit card company telling them about your dispute and the steps you took to seek a resolution. Then send your documentation to the address specified by the credit card company to handle its disputes.

Resolution

The credit card company must acknowledge receipt of your letter within 30 days, unless the error is already corrected. Within two billing cycles or up to 90 days, the credit card issuer must either correct or state its position on the error. While pending, the disputed amount and related finance charges cannot be deducted from your account. During this time, the disputed amount also cannot be reported as delinquent on your credit report and collections cannot be initiated. However, the disputed amount can remain on your statement and factor into your credit limit. Interest charges can also still accrue on the disputed amount, but must later be dropped if the matter is resolved in your favor.

Still Not Satisfied?

If the card issuer doesn’t settle the dispute to your satisfaction, you have ten days from that notification to further respond. You need to send another letter outlining why you still refuse to pay. At this time, the credit card company can report your account as delinquent to the credit bureau, but it must also submit a record of your dispute. They also must send you record of everyone they reported the delinquency to. When the dispute is resolved, the card issuer must send a revised notice to everyone to whom it reported the delinquency. If the card issuer doesn’t comply with any of these procedures, it must credit you the disputed amount, plus interest, up to a total of $50. even if the bill was correct.

The same process applies if you find charges made by someone else on your account or you are charged the wrong amount. You shouldn’t have to pay for unfair, inaccurate, or erroneous charges on your credit card bill. But it is up to you to regularly review your statement and credit score so you can promptly report any disputed amounts.

With finances so tight these days, every little bit counts and you deserve to hang on to your hard earned money. Meticulously following these simple steps might just help you keep a little more of it in your pocket.

Remember when you were young and so happy when you got that first credit card in the mail? Getting a credit card is sort of a right of passage in today’s society, and lots of people can recollect the sensation of power and exhilaration they got when they were able to score that first little piece of plastic. In fact, having a credit card really is sort of a requirement if you’re going to build a good credit score and have the purchasing power you want when it comes time for big purchases such as a car or house.
Unfortunately, that joy that came with that first card is probably long gone by now; in reality, you probably throw away many card offers that come, unsolicited, to your mailbox each month. In addition, you may be one of the millions of people who dread paying all that interest and all those charges each month and would adore nothing else than to work out a way to eliminate Credit card debt – or at least reduce it quite a bit.
There are many options you can select from when deciding the way to eliminate credit card debt. You can do it yourself, hire pros to help, or wipe out the debt totally through bankruptcy.
Obviously, the least expensive way is to do it yourself. Here is a plan that works for a lot of people; it worked for me when I got sick of paying for my automobile and needed to be rid of that vehicle payment. This is what I did:
I sat down and took a good hard look at my revenue and my outgo. Then, I came up with a plan. For each unsecured debt ( visa cards and a signature loan, in my case) I had, I began paying only the minimum due every month. Then, I took all the cash I could find and applied it to my automobile payment. I paid everything, kept terribly small to spend, and sent the rest to the bank. Every once in a while, I did not even spend the entire amount I kept aside, and when that happened, I sent in an extra payment that month. It took me around a year, but by doing that, I cut off over 2 years of vehicle payments.
After seeing my success, I chose to do the same with my visa cards and signature loan. I then took all the cash I had been paying for the vehicle payment ( that was now gone ), and began applying it to one Visa card. I chose the one with the tiniest balance because it caused me feel good to see the balance go down dramatically. It potentially makes more sense to begin with the one with the highest rate of interest, but I found I needed the support. In four months, that card was zeroed out, and I began on the next one. I kept going till all the cards were paid off, except one, on which I kept a small balance. This method requires diligence, but the rewards are incredible.
.

With the economy back on the revival path, several credit card issuers had adopted a cautious approach on their credit card business during the period of slowdown in 2009, are again aggressively working to increase their portfolio. Credit cards have become one of the best sources of transaction these days. It is practically impossible to carry hard cash each time. In those cases, credit card would help you a lot. Almost every bank provides the customer a grace period of 20 to 40 days depending upon the amount of credit card issued by the organization. It allows the user to get the short term loans within a small period of time depending on the fact that the total charges are not higher than the maximum credit limit of the card. Moreover, it also reduces the risk of carrying the liquid cash in order to purchase the goods.

One of the leading credit card provider, HDFC Bank is planning to scale up its credit card business and plans to issue close to 100,000 credit cards every month over the next couple of months. At present, HDFC Bank is issuing close to 75,000 credit cards every month. HDFC Credit card comes with lucrative and unique features to accommodate needs of individuals. That’s the reason why these cards are widely accepted in India and are becoming priority of the individuals and becoming priority of the individuals. HDFC bank has a leader when it comes to private sector banking.

The bank also plans to bring back the earlier limits in credit and cash facilities. In fact, the lender is trying to promote the credit card businesses in a big way. Earlier, the bank is providing more reward points on credit card spent. According to RBI, the total number of cards in the system has shrunk by 25 percent in 2009 to about 21 million cards from close 26.5 million cards a year ago. Bank is planning to offer credit cards to its existing customers who have a six-month old account with the bank.

At a time, when economic crisis was at the peak, it was only HDFC credit card portfolio that continued to churn profits. Its gold credit card specially fared better than all its peers. The card offered customers 5 percent cash back facility on air-ticketing and train ticketing, even in the time when maintaining liquidity levels for banks was proving to be tough task.

Meanwhile, there was one more credit card that has been constantly the centre of attraction for the customers, HDFC Silver credit card. Its a multi-purpose credit card and can finance all kinds of expenses for its users. This card carries an excellent scheme ‘earn while you spend’ allows user become eligible gifts and other rewards simultaneously when he or she uses it.

In these days of recession and credit crunch it is more important than ever that you keep complete control over your personal finances. Outgoings, credit, loans, income – all need to be considered carefully when you are organizing your finances.

One of the most important ways of doing this is to study your credit report to understand where you are with regards credit status. Credit is the lifeblood of our societies finances, with many people relying on it for all forms of use, from getting a mortgage to buy a house to using a credit card to do the weekly food shopping.

Why getting a free credit report is important.

With credit playing such a huge part in our lives it is important that we stay on top of it, that we are aware where we stand. Yet many people prefer to bury their head in the sand, ignore their credit report and hope that it doesn’t flag up any problems. Worse people with problems ignore them and hope they will go away. They won’t.

What a free credit report can do for you is flag up these problems and allow you to meet them head on. With so many forms of credit out there it is easy to lose track of one or two and miss payments or even stop paying. An old mobile phone contract, a small credit card that you forgot you put a couple of items on,

By checking your credit report you are able to see what the problems are. Once you do that you can go about addressing them, contacting companies and clearing balances. This is important as any sort of credit that you want to get will use your credit report as a basis for whether you should be awarded the credit.

Improve your credit report

So should you be looking to take out a credit card, loan, mortgage, mobile phone contract or any other of thousands of types of credit your credit report is the one major factor of your personal finances that a credit company will consider. For that reason it has to be in as good state as possible.

The way to ensure that it is in the state needed to ensure that you get the credit you deserve is to get a free credit report and make sure that it is in order. If it is not when you act on any issues it will positively impact your report, creating more of a chance that you will get the credit that you want – far more so than if you ignored your credit report and any issues that it may flag up.

Your personal finances are vital to your budget, and so is full control of all your credit. The best way to get control is by reviewing your credit report. Getting a free credit report is the first step in getting your finances back under control.

Entering the year 2010, many people find themselves being pushed into tight spots. They find themselves in immediate need to radically cut expenditures, or else face a multitude of financial problems in the near future. This time is of special significance. The threat of the ill effects of the global financial crisis coupled with the adverse effects of climate change is forever lingering, and is threatening man’s very survival. Financial security has never been so important, and so is maintaining a good credit rating by way of proper credit card debt management.

Having a good credit rating would enable people to get low interest rates on credit cards and loans. And this would give people a higher probability in getting approved in new loans and credits. As if the global financial crisis is not enough, a bad credit rating would affect people from not getting a cell phone contract to being denied of jobs being applied for. One would also be subjected to shame and embarrassment. Debt collectors are quite persistent, reminding people of their forgotten obligations by calling in at work or at any time and place that may put a person in extreme discomfort.

In credit cards, some of the reasons for having a bad credit rating comes from paying late, having a high credit balance, maxing out one’s credit balance, or completely ignoring bills. Being prompt on paying one’s bills would prevent him from having any problem with credit cards any time soon. And of course, the ever importance in having discipline on using credit cards to make purchases is obviously important. Knowing these things would help people in doing effective credit card debt management.

Another key to effective credit card debt management is to know when to use or not to use a credit card. Credit cards should never be used in place of cash. When it comes to purchasing simple things such as toiletries, or basic commodities like food or gas, avoid using credit cards because this may lead to uncontrolled accumulation of debts. Another consideration should be to be truly aware of one’s purchasing power. This could be done by balancing one’s income to his expenditures for his basic needs. After allocating one’s income to his expected necessary expenditures, bills included, whatever would be left for him would be the amount he could spend to purchase optional products. The rule of thumb is if one could not afford a product without using a credit card then don’t buy it, otherwise he will have difficulty in paying his credit card bill later. The key to spending is to prioritize. Plan ahead what purchases are necessary and which purchases could be put aside. Executing this plan would lead to disciplined spending which would give people better control over paying their bills.

Needless to say, paying credit card bills is very important. If one thinks he could evade his responsibility in paying, then he should know that a multitude of serious consequences could affect him that could even span for a lifetime. Many important life decisions such as making an educational loan, or even a house loan would have a very high probability to get rejected. A destroyed credit rating would earn him distrust from various, if not all, financial institutions. This would mean a lifetime of difficulty and hardships in getting financial help from them through loans or credits.
